Driving to pick up DelSolGirl from Dulles Airport Monday night, I found myself on I-495 crossing over the bridge into VA when a young blonde girl in a beautiful silver NSX (she looked late 20s, early 30s) passed by the ol' Caravan going pretty rapidly. I speeded up a little, enough to see her end up behind a brand new Porsche Boxster S (still had dealer plates), with an older guy with gray hair driving.

The Boxster moves over a lane to the right, and lets the NSX girl pull up alongside. Traffic was still sparse, and they both take off from about 50 mph. They couldn't go far, since traffic was thickening and I could see brakelights up ahead, but they probably made it to 90 or 100 before braking pretty hard. The result?

Surprisingly, the Boxster S hung with the NSX. The NSX only pulled about a fender or a little more - they weren't dead even when they took off, so I'm estimating. The girl in the NSX was visibly surprised. I don't know if it was the differece in drivers, or if the cars are just that closely matched. The guy in the Boxster S gave a big grin, and then exited promptly. The NSX girl took off through traffic, and I lost her completely. Not long afterward, though, I saw a Neon SRT-4 demoralize a TSX. That race paled greatly, though, to the previous one I witnessed.

Overall, I thought the NSX was a totally gorgeous car, but I was more impressed with the Boxster S's ability to hang. What do the new ones have, ~260hp with the 3.2L?

I wonder if the NSX girl down shifted? I've done that before where I only down shift one gear and the other car walks me or we're dead even.

Next time around I down shift to the proper gear for the speed and no contest.

was the srt-4 silver? if so it was probably my friend. he posts on this board as driver z. you should have caught up to the girl and gotten her number :thumbup:.

And you were able to notice all these subtle details about the drivers and how close the race was because you were able to keep up close enough to them in a Caravan???
