If it does get a 115 HP engine it will probably be the same 1.6 as in the MINI with the possibility of a 1.8 putting 160 HP.

dakar, sorry, $4.50 a gallon for gas. My bad.

At least in the article it says it will be a 1.8L engine. in europe BMW has a 1.6L that put out 115hp and 1.8L with 140hp and 2.0L with 160hp. the 1.8L is the M44 which was used in the Z3. the other two engine never came to the US officially. So I am a bit puzzled where the 1.8L 115hp engine came from. |
$26,000 for a 115hp? Forget it. Even 2 gen Tegs put out more power. Remember people *****in' about the new Civics not having enough power? And I'm sure the 1-series will weigh a lot more than a Civic. I would much rather pay a little more and get a 184hp 325i.

what the hell is bmw doing? making all these different models so fast? they aren't all that great looking either.

So BMW is going to have 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 series cars and the Z and M versions of them? Are they all going to exist in the U.S.? BMW is expanding it's lineup and avoiding being combined by the other auto-giants.

One thing that this is going to allow BMW to do is enlarge its customer base. I am willing to bet that the 1 series will be a big hit with the younger generation, just out of college with loans to pay, but want something of a status symbol to drive. Nothing claims that more than saying you drive a BMW. It gets people into their cars at a younger age and hopefully retain them through the years.
