Ward's 10 Best Engines - 2003

The Ward's 10 Best Engines for 2003:

Engine (and tested vehicle)
- BMW AG 3L DOHC I-6 (330i)
- BMW AG 3.2L DOHC I-6 (M3)
- DaimlerChrysler AG 5.7L OHV Hemi Magnum V-8 (Dodge Ram HD)
- Ford Motor Co. 6L Power Stroke OHV Turbodiesel V-8 (F-Series Super
Duty)
- General Motors Corp. 4.2L DOHC I-6 (Chevrolet TrailBlazer)
- Honda Motor Co. Ltd. 2L DOHC I-4 (Acura RSX Type S)
- Honda Motor Co. Ltd. 3L SOHC V-6 (Accord EX)

- Mini 1.6L supercharged DOHC I-4 (Mini Cooper S)
- Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. 3.5L DOHC V-6 (Infiniti G35 coupe)
- Volkswagen AG 1.8L turbocharged DOHC I-4 (Golf Gti 1.8T)

-----------------------------------------

No surprises, except the J30A2. Never woulda guessed it would be on there. I have to agree with everything on that list...very fair. I can see the exclusion of the F20C, as it has no torque. Good job Honda

But if you think about it, Honda only has 2 cars on there. Nissan has, what, 15?

Well, as Mike says, HP/L means jack. I tend to agree. It's all about the feel of the engine. While the F20C is absolutely amazing, it is just not a practical engine for commuting. Believe me, I know. It's an amazing technological achievement, but they rate these engines based on feel...not stats.

Nothing really to be all over, he's been spouting a bunch of crap in the Civic forum about Type-R motors being built for boost from the factory.

I have to wonder about the Mini Cooper S though, maybe it gets the award for "most grunt in limited packaging space."

so they are based on conservative daily driving, not performance.. ;) gotcha

(hardly seems worth noting lol)

I think the F20C head deserves attention, but the block is really a retooled H22.
