New Models: Marcos unveils new TSO models at London event
11 Jul 06 16:48

Marcos Engineering, the rejuvenated UK sportscar manufacturer, unveiled its new TSO GTC at London's Salon Prive private luxury and supercar Show.

The TSO GTC is a race-inspired two-seat sports coupe that comes with racing suspension, racing brakes and a rear diffuser. Prices start at £49,950.

The TSO R/T, meanwhile, is more of an open-top grand tourer with dual removable roof panels. The R/T comes equipped with touring suspension, cargo nets and sound system and is priced at £53,950.

Both models are powered by a 420bhp aluminium V8 engine sourced from General Motors, which also powers the Corvette and Monaro. A 462bhp Performance Pack is also available as an option. The transmission is a six-speed manual gearbox.

With the Performance Pack, the TSO accelerates to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and to 100 mph in 8.5 seconds. In addition, the fitting of 340mm AP Racing brakes means a 0-100-0 time of 12.9 seconds. Marcos also claims a 50-70mph time of 2.1 seconds and a top speed of over 185 mph.

The company says that it sees the GTC and R/T as drivers' cars, so there are no airbags or ABS. However, traction control may be available as an option later in the year.

Marcos is keen to stress that all the composites and components are CAD-designed and fabricated in the UK. The chassis is engineered and manufactured by Prodrive; and a lightweight composite body from Millfield Composites in Newcastle. These, along with the GM V8 engine, are assembled at Prodrive's Kenilworth site, where the Marcos production facility is situated.

'The TSO's combination of tuned V8 power and lightweight design delivers both stunning performance and breathtaking sound in a reliable, precision-engineered and affordable British supercar,' claimed Tony Stelliga, Marcos Engineering's managing director.

Stelliga told 4Car at the car's unveiling at the Hurlingham Club in London that the company expects to sell around 50 of the bespoke-built cars a year. His comments at the unveiling clearly suggested that Marcos is aiming squarely at TVR.

The GTC coupe and R/T Targa are available from Marcos's four-strong dealer network from this summer. They will also be on show at the British International Motor Show in London next week.
