difference?
The original "F" 600 was the Hurricane 87 thru 90 (although in 1990 it dropped the "hurricane" moniker) cbr f2 91-94 and f3 95-98 are basically the same bikes. The F3 got ram-air and brake and fork upgrades from the earlier f2. The F4 came in 99 the first cbr 600 with an aluminum frame. In 2004 the f4i was the first in the series to be fuel injected. I owned one and it was a very nimble, good handling bike. However, I did not like the upward seating position and closer handlebars so I went back to suzuki and wouldn't get anything else now that I've owned several of them. As for a 600rr, I have not ridden one. Basically the same as an f4i in looks besides an undertail exhaust.

A little correction.... fuel injection came in '01 which introuduced the F4i at that time(and the two headlights for low and hi beam). From 01 to 03 they were the same except for color difference. In 04, they brought back the 1 piece seat that was orginally on all the bikes before the '01 f4i. Other than the seat, they're basically the same mechanically. This is all in the U.S. Might be a little different in Europe and in Japan.
For comparison:
2000
2001

the cbr600RR is a more sporty bike, lower bars better suspenion and a little more power.
The F4i is more comfortable and beginner friendly.
All the F4,F3, F2 and F1 are is the old models; basically a generation name like C5 or C6 Corvette.

dollar for dollar, go with an F3 or an F4i. you can find them used, in good shape, and relatively cheap, so if you down it, no big loss. once you get more used to riding street bikes then you might want to think about stepping up.

one thing most people don't realize, insurance for any of the big 4's sport bikes is rediculus. Look for a late 90's early 2000's Triumph. Speed Triple/Four and certain Daytonas are less than 25% of the cost of insuring a 600. Seriously. a CBR600F4i was going to be at least $800 for PLPD. I pay $300 for my Tl1000S, a much faster and harder bike to ride. Obsure bikes don't have the bad numbers a ZX or gixxer does and "appears" safer.
