Default 1997 CR-V Auto box - How do I remove 1st Clutch Assembly

I have a 1997 CR-V which will not go into reverse. In fact, when you shift into reverse and let go of the brake pedal, there is a whining noise from the gearbox. My mechanic has diagnosed that the noise is definitely coming from within the gearbox and has removed the gearbox. He has removed the end cover, but is stuck at the 1st clutch assembly. It turns/spins in both directions making it impossible to remove the locknut that fastens the clutch assembly to the shaft.
His question is, how does he remove this locknut? We have a Honda CR-V repair manual, but it does not show how to remove this nut. Or am i missing something?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
