Default Timing Belt and Oil Pump

Begging all Passport Mechanics!!!! Please help me answer a question!

My mechanic is telling me that I need a new oil pump on my 1999 Passport in order for my timing belt to "time"? Is this even remotely possible?

Oil pum. Hmm are you sure he's not refering to a water pump. Usually when you replace the T belt it only makes sens to do the water pump. The oil pump is driven by the crank but unless you have a pressure problem or no oil pressure at all i see no reason why to chenage it. I have done a dozen t belts on Passports and not one of them needed an oil pump to complete the job
