Default does the differential make a loud noise

If I jack up the car and turn the front drove wheels back and forth there is a loud clunk noise and a fair bit of slack, is this normal????

Do you not hear or feel a problem when you are driving the car?

When the car is cold (in the morning) all is well. after 15 miles and the tranny has heated up, there is a loud clunk shifting from first to second.

How long has it been since the transmission fluid was changed? I had a feeling of a clunk when shifting at low speeds (never heard it with the radio up) and after swapping the transmission fluid 3 times (1/week for 3 weeks) I haven't had the problem again. 3-4 changes will replace 60-70% of your total fluid since it holds so much but only empties 3.5 quarts at a time.

In your first post you mentioned it was when you turned the wheel not when you were moving which sounds more like a cv joint or some other steering related component and not the transmission.
