I have worked a an ACURA dealership for over 7 years and have NEVER changed a cam sensor on a 2nd gen legend or RL. Our parts department does stock the part and sell quite a few to independant shops, presumably for customers that dont need the part replaced.
I have seen cars with all of the insulation melted out and the sensor functioned fine. It is very common. If you look on most RL/Lenends near the oil filter you will see some of the insulation oozing out from behind the timing belt cover.

Melted Sensor
Hello, The sensor is fine. I have seen dozens (probably more) of melted sensors & only replaced one. It had a leaking cam seal & swelled up until the cam gear dug into it. Slap the new belt on & get on with life. Your OK.
