I'm I running to rich, how to tell...

So if I check my plugs to see if your running rich or lean, what should I be looking for?

Meguel24 Aug 29, 2003 01:16 PM

Carbon-fouled plugs do indeed mean you're running rich? Is that true????

dubcac Aug 29, 2003 01:19 PM

If the plugs are black and smell like fuel, you are running rich. They should be a light brownish color...white means you are running lean.

So lets say I'm not running rich, what do I need to correct/replace to be running normal again. (im olny getting 250 miles on a tank, when in my red integra i used to get 310.)

Try a minor tune up. Plugs/wires/cap and rotor.

Meguel24 Aug 30, 2003 07:48 PM

did that last month

Have you made any fuel system modifications?

Skelly_GSR Aug 30, 2003 10:57 PM

if youre plugs are white, it means your too lean. Just thought I would let you know

Only thing I did was added, i/h/e, but noticed that was getting less miles on a tank since I got it in May and did mods in July. This weekend my buudy said the car smelt funny (as I turned it on) said you running rich, and I need to do something with my fuel injectors???? Thanks for the help, I'll take out my brand new (~2K miles) NGK platinum plug tomorrow and check them out.

have you replaced the plugs recently? my gas milage significantly increased when i replaced my 2 year old plugs. o2 sensor could also be the cause.
