Default Stuck in Drive

I have a 92 automatic integra. I turned on my car
this morning and it's basically stuck in drive no matter
which gear I select (park, reverse, neutral, drive).
I almost smashed into my girlfriend's car parked right
in front of me, when I put the gear in reverse and
hit the gas!!! very weird.

Any ideas on what the problem is? I hope I don't
have to replace the transmission .....

most automatic transmissions are equipped with a solenoid that locks the transmission. This solenoid may have gone bad.

My friends old auto cavalier wouldn't disengage out of overdrive. When we got back to his house, his dad just pulled the harness off the solenoid (on the transmission) and it worked normally again.

I'll try and locate it for you.

#6 is the Lock-up Solenoid, disconnect that. (#4 is the shift solenoid - don't disconnect that)

Took it into the shop, turns out the
transmission gear shift cable needed
to be replaced. Cost about 250$ (canadian)
for the part.
