What's a good CAI?
I really wanna buy a CAI and I don't know much, but everyone is telling me it is a pretty cost effective way to improve performance a bit. Anything I should look for? Brand?
Thanks. |
there are many to choose from. aem, comptech, injen, dc, etc.
most people go with an aem |

aem |
I made my own CAI. Stay tuned for a DIY intake thread.

w/bypass valve:
AEM Injen no bypass valve: Mugen ($650 !!!!) Comptech Icebox extension + foam filter The Mugen CAI has been dyno-proven (on a relatively stock motor) to make the most power, period. It is NOT worth the absurd price tag IMO. The power difference between the CAIs listed is on the order of 1 whp. The Comptech icebox and AEM are comparable, with the Comptech being a bit less loud and having a little more midrange. Note that you don't need the Comptech short-ram for the icebox to work. Alternatively, you can spend $50 to make something similiar to the icebox (very soon, dom93hatch will post some detailed instructions complete with diagrams, right? :p ). Shingo |
So I am guessing that no bypass valve is better?
|
do you lose low end powe with the aem cai or any of the other intakes?
|
I lost throttle response when I had an AEM intake w/ bypass valve. The Icebox (no short ram yet) has much more throttle response & midrange. I think after I get the short ram kit, my top end will pick up more too.

aem cai in my opinion sucks, throttle response isnt there like a short ram. everyone likes to join in on the aem hype.
on honda-tech.com there was a dyno test of j's racing vs. aem cai vs. stock with k&n. j's racing came out on top. mugen is probably the best intake out there, u get the goods of both worlds, excellent throttle response with getting cold air. j's racing and comptech icebox also gets good votes. |
I want more torque/throttle response out of my intake. So is Icebox or j's racing better? And where can I find those for pretty cheap? Thanks.
