Either way, 205/40 will be thinner.

205 is the section width, which is how wide the tread is measured in millimeters.

40 is the series, which is how tall the sidewall is measured as a percentage of the section width.

A 205/40 tire has a sidewall height of approximately 82 millimeters, a 215/40 tire has a sidewall height of approximately 86 millimeters.

my tires size are 205/45/R16 and i have arospeed springs, but one side of my rear spring couldn't seem to get it to look low enough, so i want to buy thicker tires to make it look lower. I guess my question is which tire size make it thicker in height from the rims. 205/45 or 215/45?

215 would be slightly higher but very very little. Barely noticeable. Sounds like something is wrong with your springs.

if you wanna do that...im not saying that you should...

then just retain the same width (205) and up the sidewall # (45)....

205-50-16 :dunno:

I have 205-50-16. I've been driving with them for a while now. I'd buy different ones, but don't wanna spend money on buying tires to replace tires that are still good. Although I do hate how these tires don't look as low profile. I didn't know anything about the measurements when I bought these tires, thats why I was too stupid to realize I was getting the wrong size. So my speedo is reading slower then what I am really going correct?? Or no?
