Fuel Filter?
I was just wondering when you should change your fuel filter. I heard you should change it about every 60,000 mile. if it helps the gas mileage then i would want to do it. And do you guys have any idea how much it would cost to get one? thanks
Yeah I changed mine at 60k. Should be about $10-20
thats really cheap. where did you get it changed. the place that im taking it to is charging me $60.
no way is it $60. i paid $20 at the acura dealer.
I bought mine for $12 at the Acura dealership. Just have yet to install it, because I don't know how?? Anyone know where I could find a detailed description on changing fuel filters?
Yeah the filter itself is really cheap, just install it yourself.
undo the tiny bolt on top that relieves the pressure in the line (put a rag over it while you're going at it so it doesn't spray gas in your eye) then undo the bigger bolt under that, and the bolt on the other line. Do in reverse to put the new filter in and tighten it down GOOD. ^^ rough directions of how to do it. |
i would get rid of all the fuel in the line first. pull out your fuel pump fuse. start the car and watch it die. then start it up a couple more time to make sure all the fuel in the line is gone.
then pull the filter out...install new one. put fuse back in. and there you go. really bland instructions but hey. |
Sounds easy enough.
dont forget to take off the fuel cap
Take off the fuel cap to relieve pressure first and foremost.
Do what Will said. Remove the fuse and keep starting the car until there is no fuel in the system. While removing the old fuel filter though, keep a rag on it to absorb the gas that will spray out. Believe me, gas WILL spray out. Keep the rag on it for a few minutes before completely removing. |
