I believe 205s are the widest you could go on that rim. BTW all GS-R wheels are 15"x6".

You can get a 225/50-15 tire on there but it will be bulging out a fair bit. I wouldn't do it unless you're going with something with a very stiff sidewall.

Most tire manufacturers list a wheel width range for each size of a particular tire. There's the "measuring rim width" which is the wheel size that you have to mount the tire on to get the quoted width spec, and then a range of widths that the tire can be reasonably mounted on.

I checked out the ES100 dimensional data, found on page 2 of
http://www.yokohamatire.com/pdf/avses100.pdf

205/50R15 has 6.5" Measuring Rim Width, with 5.5-7.5" Approved Rim Width.

225/50R15 has 7.0" Measuring Rim Width, with 6.0-8.0" Approved Rim Width.

So 225s will technically fit on the stock 15x6 wheels.

After reading this board, I decided to go with the 205s like everybody else; MrFatBooty knows his stuff.

On the other hand, you could try 225s and tell us the results!

reason i ask is cause my brother has a set of 225/50 bfg drag radials on stock 96 rims. he's been rolling around on them for a few weeks.

Default So what does Spike say about the 225s?

Spike = Snoopy's brother in Peanuts.... eh, never mind.... :ugh:

I ended up with ES100s in 205s; comments on tirerack.com talked about soft sidewalls, and the need to properly inflate the tires. Much better ride at 40psi than 34psi (tires say don't go over 35-36psi when mounting with sealant bead).

I'm guessing it would have been a worse ride with 225s. Dunno about the bfg drag tires.

So, what does your brother say?
