Default Need serious help. Major Problem.

I have a 1995 LS with 89k miles on it that I use as my daily driver. The only aspect of the car that has been modified is the suspension, mainly because it is an automatic and it will never be fast. My problem is:

Today I left my house and everything was running fine. I make a stop, get back in my car and leave. Everything is still fine. I make another stop, come back to my car and start it up. When I go to put it into drive the shift lock wont release. This has happened to me before, so I check all the various things that could cause it to stay locked (steering wheel wasnt locked, brake was depressed, foot was off gas, ebrake was on, car was running). Nothing would cause the shift lock to disengage. So I put my key in the shift lock release, thinking that maybe it needed some kind of "reset" or something. It worked, but I get the same problem everytime now. My car is stuck in park unless I put my key in the shift lock release on the shifter. I don't want to have to do this EVERY time I start my car.

Now I'm no moron, I work as a mechanic at a shop and got the advice of my fellow employees and we couldn't see anything. I took the shift assembly apart and can't "see" anything wrong. If anyone can provide any help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton.

Brake isn't making a switch to tell the tranny it's depressed? Only thing I can think of... if there even is a switch?

Check all relays to the shift lock...since you are a mechanic, get the OEM wiring diagrams and make sure that the shift lock is actually getting disengaged.

Default Shift lock release

Do you still have the problem with the shift lever locked in park? I have a '98 accord automatic that is doing the same thing. How did you fix yours? The dealer tells me it's the stop light switch (part #36750-S84-003), list $32.77. I would like to know if this could be it before I start replacing everything until it's fixed.

Check above the pedal area on the brake. There is usually a depressor switch there that reports to the locking mechanism. Check to make sure the pedal depresses the depressor switch. I don't know if this switch is on Honda automatics, but it's on almost every other car I've seen.

Just north of where you put your foot on the brake. Look up there for a switch of some sort and if there is one, be sure it is aligned with the brake pedal shaft.
