New 91 Integra with B18B1 need help
Hello there, this is my first day on the forum, I'm in process of acquiring this 91 Integra today at 4pm, from someone i know.
I've got some questions I'm sure can be answered more speficially by experienced people on this site otherwise all i have is a guy i sort of know's "WORDS"
He's telling me that he and his friend put in a motor+tranny i think? they crated from japan, a b18b1 (an american version is the b18a1?)
and they have the LSD/tranny etc.
The car drives real friggin fast, unlike anything i rode for a car that isnt 200+hp
all he has are the aem cold intake, the engine from japan (JDM stands for that?) and a HKS exhaust system... stage 3 clutch, supposedly tein coilovers (does tein have a regular spring kit w/struts or do they only come in coilovers) and a stock gsr 15'' rim...
you can literally REDLINE IT! and then SOME!! which is what gave me the decision to buy it.
Now I know obviously the car's been beat to hell (by showing whoever else sits in the passenger side) now hes told me its only got 36k (no papers...) 222k on body but i felt this car had potentional, i plan on garaging it and driving only spring/summer...
what i wanted to know is if $2500 is worth it??
and how do i know if the engine/tranny is REALLY from JAPAN? hes telling me the american version cannot be redlined and so forth.. i thoguht it took a CHIP to be able to redline ANY engine etc...
i know the engine is an OBD2 so i looked up wiki.com and i could only find a b18b1 with this info
3.1 B18A
3.2 B18A1
3.3 B18B1
3.4 B18B4
3.5 JDM B18C
--B18B1
NON-VTEC
Found in:
1994-2001 Acura Integra "RS/LS/GS/SE" (DC4/DB7)
Displacement: 1,834 cc (111.9 cu in)
Compression: 9.2:1
Bore: 81 mm (3.2 in)
Stroke: 89 mm (3.5 in)
Rod Length: 137.01 mm (5.394")
Rod/Stroke Ratio: 1.54
Power: 142 hp (106 kW) @ 6300 rpm & 127 ft·lbf (172 N·m) @ 5200 rpm
Redline: 6800 rpm
Rev Limit: 7200 rpm
Transmission: Y80/S80
my problem is he told me its pretty much stock engine other than the LSD/stage 3 clutch/hydrualic shifter.... unsure abt chip being modified or stock cuz he had to make the oBD2 engine work w/the 91 body etc?
now hes telling me its around 170hp but i cldnt find any specs that matched his statement...
can anybody give me any tips or anything to get started withanything will be greatly apprecaited, i hope this car gives me a great time!!
thanks again!

The B18B and B18B1 are pretty much the same motor, one JDM the other USDM. The engine code is stamped on the front of the block where the motor and trans join; check this for sure, the JDM version will never end in a number. If it's a true Honda LSD trans, it will have LSD stamped on it in red letters. They are quick cars because they are so light. Most stock hondas/acuras rev well past 7k, so don't base anything on being shown that. I couldn't see needing a stage 3 clutch for really anything but a heavily modified car; and most all OBD2 honda trans are hydraulic. This is all off the top of my head, but if you have any other questions post them. Any pics you can get of the motor and trans and we can help ID them for you.

well the 91 b18a1 is rated for 130 hp factory. Exhaust and intake can easily increase that number maybe around 140 - 150. I also know that the red starts at 6500 on my car and ive had it up real close to 7 a couple times...tough call...

i dont think this will push the horsepower to 200+. i myself have owned a 91 integra for 6 years and last summer did some upgrading on it. i changed the suspension and the brakes giving me better handling. got to know a lot during that time. i dont think with these parts it will go near the mark you mentioned, should be like 170 max.
