Given the specific characteristics of the b18c1 (and the size of the wheelwell), what do you guys think is the optimal tire size for best straight-line performance ?
Right now I have 195/55/15s, and I was looking at getting some 225/50/15s. I noticed however, that the tires seemed really chunky and heavy, and even though it will improve my launch because of more surface area on the ground, I was thinking that it might bog me down on the take-off alot more, due to the lack of low end torque on the gs-r, combined with the sheer size of the tire. What is your guys opinion...should I go with something a little thinner like a 205, or will a 225 benefit my launch more ?

 

go with the 205 50's. Closest rotational mass to the stock 195 55's. 225's wouldn't fit on the stock rims. I don't even think 215's would fit on stock rims.

 

Oh yeah; I forgot about the rotational mass. Damn, it seems like everything is a trade off........the wider the tire, the more grip, but more rotational mass and more weight. The thinner the tire, less grip, but less rotational mass and less weight.....

 

Last question for you guys.

For dry weather grip/drag situations.......Parada spec 2s, Kumho MXs, or Falken Azenis ?

 

205/50/15 is the way to go.

I'm getting the Kumho MXs on Saturday, they were rated REAL close to the Potenza S-03 on TireRack. $78/each is MUCH better than $117 for an S-03.

 

but are they better than paradas and falkens for a drag setup ?

 

If you are really going to drag. get some R compound tires and swap them out when you go to the track, and get some bulletproof drive shafts

 

I'm pretty happy with my 205/50-15 Azenis. They're very grippy, solid (no flex), responsive, and street legal. They are meant for a 15x6.5" rim, so I wouldn't expect their best results from mounting them on your stock 15x6.0" rims.

They are a bit heavier than normal tires, but their cornering and braking performance more than makes up for it. They're probably not the best choice for drag tires though.

I'm looking at Yokohama AVS ES100s to replace my worn RE730s. I currently have 205/50-15s; the Tokico performance kit lowered front and back 1.5", so no wheel gap.

I checked out the ES100 dimensional data, found on page 2 of

205/50R15 has 6.5" Measuring Rim Width, with 5.5-7.5" Approved Rim Width.

225/50R15 has 7.0" Measuring Rim Width, with 6.0-8.0" Approved Rim Width.

So 225s will technically fit on the stock 15x6 wheels.

Any thoughts on going to the 225s, or should I stick with the 205s?
