'95 Integra: Do you drive in D4 or D3 ?

Hi All,

I have a 1995 integra special edition. It has two drive gears - D4 and D3. Which one do you drive in? Which one is better for the engine? Which one gets better gas milage?

In what instances would you use either?

Thanks!

i'm guessing D3 just doesn't allow the tranny to shift into overdrive.. you would want to use D4 on the highway. D3 is probably best used in the city, but i don't think there'd be any issues with leaving it in D4 all the time.

don't quote me tho, i drive a 5 spd.

D3 locks out overdrive. I would just leave it in D4 unless you want to be "sporty" for some reason. ;)

yeah I have a SE 95 also and d4 is alot better to use...unless you prefer a louder exhaust sound on d3. d4 is just alot better so u dont have to worry about switching it when going on the highway etc...

D4 for better gas mileage... normal daily driving. The only reason I'd say you should be in D3 is if you are in traffic and you don't want it going in to fourth gear while you are weaving in and out of traffic.

D4

Thank you all for the suggestions!

I do use D4. Just out of curosity, does your D4 indicator on your dashboard light up? The lights light up for P, R, N, D3, 2, and 1, but not for D4 ... is this normal?

your light probably just went out on that
