thats very odd bro, can you tell me the open circuit of the battery with the car on without any load?
how about open circuit with the headlights @highbeam, ac on ?

could be the belt is way too tight also resulting in overcharging.

The voltage is 11.5 at idle no load and with the head lights on it will either be below 10 or above 17 .depending on which alt was in it . i also thought the belt might be to tight,so ihad my buddy who is a tech look at it and he said the belt was fine .he also said that i might have a short in the wire that goes from the alt to the fuse box or the box it self might have a short in it.

those numbers are not good. voltage regulator is the problem. the wire and fuse to the battery is good since your are someti9mes seeing 17 volts at the battery posts with load.

yeah voltage regulator is the problem based on the info that you gave me.

ilde with no load should be around 13's

idle with load should be above 14.5's
