Default has anyone had trouble with the hood latch cable?

when i pull the lever to unlatch the hood, it doesn't return into place.. so, since i had nothing better to do tonight, i decided to remove the hood latch mechanism and clean it (it was full of gunk, sand, etc.. if figured the latch was getting stuck on all that gunk).

anyway, i cleaned it, the thing went from black and gunky to a nice clean metal.. springs were fine, etc.. etc.. i reinstalled the damn thing and the latch still sticks!! it was the damn cable, not the mechanism! so, i still have to push the latch with a stick to get it back into place to lock (again, since it's the cable holding it open). so now, i don't know what to do short of replacing the cable.. anyone run into this issue before and fixed it?

tia..

Mine is like that...latch doesn't like to move back to place.

However, I have a trick that I use to get it open, so I have no urge to fix it. No one can open my hood but me, kind of nice.

is the cable in some kinda housing? like how brake cables are on a bike? maybe you can spray it in the housing, so the lube can work its way down?

Hey man. Go to a dirt bike store and buy a cable luber. It costs only like 8 bucks and it works incredible. I work at a dirtbike store and alot of car guys come up and buy them. Its really easy to do and you can blast wd 40 through the whole cable no probles
