Clutch slipping??? :O
Here's the low down. Today I was driving and when I would switch gears it would connect but a few seconds later it seemed as though it were slipping and if I gave her some gas it would rev but my normal pick up was not there. This was happening in 2nd through 4th :(.
I'm guessing this means my clutch is slipping but I wanted some reassurance? I do have 160k kms on the original clutch and the engagement happens very late so I know my clutch is close to pooched, thus this would make sense. I did however just have the clutch master and slave cylinders replaced, could these have anything to do with it? I'm thinking no it's just my clutch itself going. Thanks guys, Chris |
I think all if not most integras have late engaging clutches. I think its due to the nature of the hydraulic system. Mine grabs really really late, and it was just replaced by the dealer less than 5000 miles ago.
Try this to check to see if ur clutch is slipping. Put it in first gear, and then let out your clutch without adding any gas. If you don't start to stall, then you have a slipping clutch. |
i say if you can still chirp 2nd, then it's still good. :D

So if it is slipping and it just started today, how long until it completely gives out? I ask becasue I'm writing exams right now and I need it to get back and forth.
Thanks again |

Sounds like a clutch to me. If you shift and it takes a few seconds to completely engage, that is a slipping clutch. Change it ASAP. Mine had been slipping for a few months when I changed mine, and entire disc was smooth.....probably didn't have much life left on it.

Ok so I'm obviously gonna grab a new clutch soon, is a lightenend flywheel worth the extra money? I'm borrowing money from the rents for this one becasue I'm broke so the $$$ is a big issue for me. For someone that has no money does it make enough of a difference to take out an even bigger parental loan so that I can get a new lightened flywheel? My clutch thoughts so far are the $265 shipping included exedy organic clutch and any flywheel looks to be at least another $300-500.

Definitely go with a flywheel while youre at it man. Its worth it while youre down there. Fidanza =

buying and installing the flywheel at the same time as the clutch will save you quite a bit of money down the road. you wont have to pay another $250 in labor to have it installed.
