94 to 99 engine swap
Hi, i happened across a free 94 GSR motor and i'm wondering if it will fit into my 99 integra gsr. its just the motor and no transmission so would my 99 tranny fit onto that as well? i'm a total n00b just getting into this and my 99 integra's engine needs an overhaul very badly but i can't afford the downtime.
A healthy B18C1 motor (out of a GSR) will fetch a lot of money on the open market.
So if this motor is free, it must be in horrid shape.
The '94 motor will bolt in, but you'll need to strip it down to the block and head, re-using your distributor, intake & exhaust manifolds, evaporative emissions equipment and engine wiring harness. Your transmission will also bolt up to the '94 motor.
But before you do any of this, have the older motor tested for leakdown.
It's the fastest way to get a sense of how worn the piston rings are and whether the motor is need of a rebuild as well.
There is one fly in the ointment, however.
If you live in a state that follows California smog law, you cannot legally install a '94 motor in a '99 model year car, even of you keep the modern emissions equip.
If that isn't an issue, go for it.

I wish california wasn't so redic with the emissions laws, it should be called Komunifornia with all the emissions restrictions and gun control. Looking forward to finishing college and moving, hopefully some place less restrictive.

So, I'd appreciate it if we can all move on from this dead horse of a topic.
Besides, there are ways to get around the state bureaucracy.
Not to be tightassed about it, but we tend to keep off-topic chat in The Basement so that the car forums can be more focused.
