which b18 block?

a b18a/b block and b16 head is an lsvtec and if not done right will blow up in your face

a b18c1 block and b16 head is a poormans type r and will drop your compression by .2cr points

But if it is done properly by someone who knows what they're doing, it's a good motor.

No.
The B16* family are all VTEC motors.

If you need a non-VTEC head for your B18A, pick up a B18B1 head.

hey the b16, b18c1 combo, sounds interesting. Does it have the same kind of power as a type R. If you milled the head wouldn't that make up for the loss of compression? Are there any advantages to this type of setup? Like is it cheaper? Better for N/A applications, of turbo? Has anyone done a hybrid like that before?

It will lack the same power of the B18C5 because it is lacking the aggressive ITR cams, a mild port and polish of the head, and will have a compression ratio of 9.8:1 compared to 10.6:1. Milling the head is a great way to ruin a perfectly good head, but that is just my personal opinion about it. I would prefer to swap out the pistons to increase the compression.

If you do this to a stock B18C1, you will lower the compression ratio and lose some power, especially if you use the B16 cams. If you had a head and block lying around and were looking to build a motor, it could definitely be a potent combination.
