Default How do you pick?

Well i'm in the market for an exhaust system. My problem is i don't understand how you can pick an exhaust without knowing what it's going to sound like. As far as noise i dont want to be to loud. I would like a nice deep sound at a lower rpm and start up without a rice sound in the higher rpm. I will spend whatever i need to get the sound and look i like. Also i wanted the muffler to look close to the one below. Does anyone know any links that might have sound clips of different mufflers? Or have a suggestion on what they like?

There are some websites that actually sound clips of the exhaust they're selling and usually it's sold by word of mouth. There's somebody out there that has the exhaust you're looking at and then they can compare it to something you already know.

Do you know any of these web sites? I just saw a video of the Tanabe concept G exhaust. What does everyone think of them? The price i saw was about $570.

Thanks that helps out. I think i want to go with the Tanabe concept G, but i have 2 questions. One, on the graph it says 2.36 in. is that what size pipe i would have to run? Two, would it be a problem to run this with a turbo setup?

In addition to the sound clips... read the links in the Exhaust section of the Integra FAQ.

There are some engineering discussions about the acoustics of various muffler systems.

I can tell you already that the canister-style muffler you're looking at will be:
a) high-pitched
b) loud
c) flatulent at low rpm and
d) reedy at the top end.

:hsugh:

loud? whats the average db for exhaust? This one is rated 93db or less. I thought that was about in the middle. From all the sound clips i found i think i like the Tanabe concept G. Found one for $525. If anyone sees one for less please let me know where you saw it. Also it's off topic but i got my Skunk 2 front camber kits yesterday, and will be getting my ground control coilovers and koni shocks next week.

93dB is still fucking loud.

If law enforcement in your area is strict about profiling import drivers, I would strongly consider a quieter muffler. Considering that the legal lmit in CA is 95 dB, the Tanabe will still attract a lot of attention... most of it bad.

The Apexi WSII is down in the mid to high 80s and it's much quieter than the canister style muffler you're looking at. Remember that the decibel scale is logarithmic, not linear.

Tanabe makes the worst sounding exhausts evAr! The quality isn't bad though If you're looking for a deep sounding exhaust without the high pitched whine at higher RPMs then Tanabe isn't what you're looking for.
