Default Block Guard????

What's the thinking about add on block guards? I will be building my B18C1 motor to be good up to 250WHP. I wil start out NA and hope to get 180-190 WHP. I may end up boosting 6-8 psi with a Jackson Supercharger and get 220-230 WHP. Is a block guard even necessary?

If so, then do all block guards work the same? Are some better or worse than the next one? Which one is the best? Which is worst?

You don't need a block guard. With that kind of power, open sleeves are just fine.

If you do spring for one, make sure you install it correctly. You will need to pull the motor, have the block guard welded in, the deck resurfaced, and the bores checked for out of round. It isn't worth it, IMO.

Here is a thread that should help you make a decision.
