Default 97 LS cranks but won't start, help!

Only upgrades are Intake and Exhaust...

My car now has spark, battery power, and the smell of fuel. timing belt is in tact and cam gears are lined up with "Up" parrallel to each other.

The car turns over and cranks strong, but never seems to want to fire to get it started. The exhaust makes a slight popping sound, occasionally a louder backfire when I try to start after not starting for awhile. I just noticed that the PCV valve is broken and I will replace in the morning.

My other concern is that the car is not throwing any codes, so I am taking into consideration my ecu may be done for. Is there a way to test it, also, would resetting it have any beneficial value? Thanks in advance...

When was the last time you replaced Dist. Cap, Rotor, and Plugs?

When was the last time the engine ran?

Cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, coil and ICM have all already been replaced. Where is the fuel filter and how do I check it? The last time the car ran was last sunday, the day it died...

Check your cap & rotor again. Did you replace it recently?

how recently did you replace the cap and rotor? are you sure you got the wires in the right order...if you dont its going to run extremely rough or not at all. also make sure you put the cap and rotor back on correctly.

i dont have a pic of the fuel filter location right on me...if i remember ill upload one tommorow..but if your looking under the hood look on the firewall right straight back from the left side of the valve cover...should see it there.. black unit with a line coming to the top of it and bottom of it

the filter itself looks like this:

I'll have to check it, and all of the ignition parts mentioned were replaced about a week ago, the day after the car died.
