Default Running Warm

my '95 GSR with 186k started running warm lately. It runs fine if its not really hot out and you are not beating on it or going up huge hills.

Normally the guage is at about 11 o'clock. Its been running up to about 1 o'clock and sometimes about 3/4's if I'm running it hard on the highway.

The AC also shuts down when it does this which is a pain.

The coolant level is normal. Any ideas?

You may want to check the following:

thermastat
radiator hoses
overflow tank
status of radiator
are there any leaks?

Its got to be one of these.

Do your fans kick on? Are there any leaks? Are you low on coolant? Do you have white smoke coming from your exhaust under throttle?

Howdy

the coolant level is good. No leaks that I can tell. The radiator is new and the overflow tank has some coolant in it.

I don't see any white smoke out of the exhaust or water dripping out of the exhaust.

Someone else suggested the thermostat might be bad.

I have to check to see if the fan kicks in. Does it kick in at a cetain temperature or what? Also ,is it normal for the AC to kick off when the car runs warm?

This things runs at normal temp until you beat on it. It started doing this with the arrival of the Summer weather

I did flush the coolant and it still does it

the fan's should kick in when the temp goes up. on my car for example, the temp guage is at about 10 o'clock, and doesnt go even a spec higher than that. the fans kick in regularly if its hot and im in traffic. My car's a 5 speed, with a new rad, water pump, thermostat. i changed them all last year when i did my timing belt. I used stock parts for everything.

my guess is that its your fan temp switch. I changed one on my GF's 98 civic. cost like $30 from napa and like 10 mins to install it.
