my gsr sounds like a diesel engine?

well from the inside the car, and everything else quiet... my engine sounds like a small diesel engine (that noise we hear when diesel trucks are beside us) but ofcourse in smaller decibals.

From outside of the car, I can only hear ticking noises...

any ideas to as what is making the noise?

check back in 24 hrs..and i will upload the sound

when was the last time you had a valve adjustment? are you up to date on all your oil changes and all that? to a certain degree, honda engines just run a little clicky. i think it's the injectors ticking, totally normal.

Josh is pretty much right on. Make sure you have a valve adjustment...otherwise it is probably the injectors which are very very noisy. I have the same noise on my GSR.

Same thing here with my 99 LS. Valve adjustments help, but I notice that it quiets down once the car is up to operating temperature.

the other thing that couldn't hurt is to run some injector cleaner through it. go get some B&G Products 44K, that shit is awesome! run it with a full tank of premium, cuz i ran it on an empty tank, and since there is no octane in that stuff, my car ran like shit til it was all through the system, but after i filled it up again, it ran better than before.

its on 170k, i have no reason to believe the valves were ever adjusted. i got it at 160k...what problems can arise from not adjust valves.

I hear the dealship charges $100?

Just wonder if the valve adjustment is kind of DIY job? Or better to be done by dealer?

tegbooster 12-31-2005 09:43 AM

it could be a DIY job...but if you don't know what your doing...and you don't have the proper tools...it's better to give it to a qualified mechanic.... dealers will rip you off

yeah i'd deff would spend the money and have the dealership or a mechanic do the valve adjustment.

my 95 gsr also does that too and i also noticed it seemed to go away after the engine warmed up. im gonna get it all looked at soon.
