Default Engine noise.....

Okay, I bought bought this '90 Teg over the weekend. It has 138,000 miles on the clock. When I start it cold, the engine gives me this 'growl' like the main bearings are shot, when it builds oil press, it goes away. I have driven a Toyota engine like that for a long time with no problems, but this is my first Acura, and I'm wondering what the life expectancy is.....
Any ideas?
Has anyone ever used Prolong? Does it work?:dunno:

Thanks!

Does the noise sound like a clanking noise, metal to metal when it starts up? If so this is most likely rod knock from a spun bearing.

Nope...just a steady grinding until pressure builds. I'm getting some Prolong and try it out this weekend.

I don't like 'mechanic-in-a-bottle' products. It's a bandaid solution. I'd have a mechanic look at it.

Well, it ain't gonna fix it, but it could put off the inevitable for a while, I hope.
Or, if you know where I could get a short block, cheap, I might consider prepping one sooner.
