*Ground control vs Skunk2*
Hey everyone, I am in desperate need to lower my car, the only problem that i'm having is decideing between the GCs or the Skunk2 coilovers! I will be using them with either Koni yellows or KYB agx. How do they compare to each other, in ride quality, height adjustments, and your overall thought about the product? If you could help me out that would be great. Thanks -Ryan-
sup man...you should go with gc's. people in my area who have skunks say the ride is harsh compared to gc's. most people here have gc's. plus the gc's use only one collar and use eibach springs, the best imo. i dunno who makes the skunk springs. hope this helps.
I think that all coilovers with the sleeve design are not worth it! The ride sucks and you end up damaging the struts you use! I recommend saving up for some real coilovers that are built with the strut. It' ll cost more but not in the long run if you daily drive you ride. Go with some Teins or progress. There are many other affordable true coilovers out there. Sleeves are just immitation coilovers in my opinion, but it's your car! Between the two you mentioned though...don't go with the Skunks...because like their name, their coilover sleeves stink!!! My cousin bought some for his RSX and everytime he made a turn, they would move out of place. It would make this clanky noise whenever he turned. Later he ended up busting his strut in less than a month because the sleeves would never stay in place!!! Just something to think about. Good Luck Man!!!
man...i have skunk2's on my car and i dont have any problems with them. i will admit that the ride isn't as smooth as stock, but no aftermarket suspension is. i haven't had any problem with them and the ride is still good. i know other people with them too and they dont complain about a bad ride. i think they are good but i've never ridden in a car w/ gc's
Skunk2s are "harsher" than GCs because most people with Ground Controls buy the groupbuy Limited Editions, which have VERY conservative springs rates. Skunk2s on the other hand have more performance oriented rates, which don't match well with the cheap shocks many people put them on.
AFAIK, Skunk2 sleeves also use Eibach springs. There are only three companies in the world that make their own springs.

for the struts, if you are deciding between KONI yellows and KYB AGX's, its a world of difference. Ive been in cars with both GC's and Skunk2's. the skunks are definitely stiff and feel very strong in the turns, as well as the GC's. but the GC's didn't seem to be as bouncy. the GCs were with koni yellows. the cars with the skunk2s have either had koni reds or tokico blues. both are a pretty decent setup, but the skunk2s are going to give you a stiffer ride. my honest opinion would be to save up for true coilovers though. they are engineered together and you dont have to worry about finding a good strut to go along with the sleeves. and, they ride much better.
