9005 conversion bulbs

I am interested in doing the 9005 conversion for my '94 GSR but I was wondering if there was a certain brand of bulb that would work out best for this conversion. I know silverstars are supposed to be good, but I would hate to screw up a $20 bulb. Are these really the best bulb to get for this sort of thing? I have read that for the money, sylvania xtravision are best because they put out the most useable light and they're like half the price of the silverstars. What do you guys think?

PIAA''s is what im running, looks almost like HID, they are around $80/pair

you, sir, do your homework

yes the xtravision does put out the most usable light. but the silverstars are popular because their color range is higher (only for HID effect).

i have the silverstars in my GSR now, previously i had just some generic 9005's from Sears and they seemed brighter. once the silverstars blow, i'm getting the xtravisions.

good deal...so i guess if i can get the silverstars for a decent price i might go with those...(I had a set of silverstars on my '79 Datsun 280ZX before i sold it and they were pretty sweet.) Otherwise, I might just buy the xtravision since they last so much longer. Either way, sylvania is offering a rebate on the bulbs right now. It's like $5 off a set of silverstars and $4 off a set of xtravisions, if anybody's interested. sylvania rebate

honestly, save your money and get the xtravisions.

do i the prefer the color of the silverstars?...yes. is the color of the silverstars alone worth paying an extra $20-$25?...probably not.

Ok so I went to get some 9005 bulbs for the conversion. And I can't seem to find 9005 sylvania xtravisions anywhere! I have been to a couple places and I found the regular halogen, silverstars, and the cool blues but none of the xtravision high beam bulbs. Any help? Does anyone know if sylvania makes the xtravisions in 9005? Thanks.

how do you do the 9005 conversion?

R_Squared 03-28-2005 11:13 AM

its really easy...I found a tutorial on Team-Integra.net 3rd Gen Teg 9005 Headlight Conversion. Basically all you do is cut out the plastic notches on the inside of the high beam bulbs until its flush, cut off part of the tab on the outside of the bulb, and take the rubber seal from your old low beam bulb and put it on your high beam (9005) bulb. Then you put the high beam bulb in the low beam bulb socket. Just use the tutorial...The pictures on there help. I ended up doing mine with silverstars, since I couldn't find any high-beam xtravisions. I am pleased with the results and haven't had any problems.
