gsr vs ls/vtec?
i currently have a 1996 LS...im thinking of doing a swap n i heard that ls/vtec will be faster than gsr because of compression ratios but i was told that ls/vtec may not be a good choice in the long run unless you do the whole ls/vtec setup...i want to know if which would be better considering reliability/cost...i know the ls swap would be cheaper but ive been many different stories of the pros and cons of ls/vtec

Gsr Woot

ls/vtec is good if u plan on building it up, ls/vtec boost is even better, but for time and money id just swap a gsr in

A ls has a longer stroke than the gsr thats why it produces more torque with ls vtec setups. To deal with the " no oil squirter" problem I plan to use forged pistons. From what Ive read they handle the heat alot better. The golden eagle ls vtec conversion kit is the head conversion kit im going to use. Then golden eagle also makes a bottom end girdle kit with is in the 400 range and it holds the bottom end from moving around and such. It comes with gsr oil pickup, some other gsr oem parts, and then the straight bolt in golden eagle girdle. Its just pretty much how you build it is whats going to make it last. They say the rods and rod bolts are weak im going to use arp rod bolts and some forged lighter rods. Theres a place I dont remember the name of it. But they had a lsvtec setup with stock head and I think stock internals except for like type r pistons and revved it to 8600 or so and they said in a straight line it pulled just as hard as an h22. A gsr is great factory reliable power. But if you wanna do something different and if you do it right itll last. Thats totally my opinion though.

My friend has a very potent ls/vtec setup but would trade it for a stock gsr anyday. I'd take the gsr becuase just stock it is about as fast as most light ls/vtec setups.

Why would he want to trade it for a gsr so badly? Does it not run right or what? Just with the head with stock pistons itll bring the c.r. up because the ls head has a 45cc combustion chamber and a gsr has a 41.6cc and a b16 head has a 42.7cc combustion chamber.

Check out some of these ls vtec sites if your interested:

GSR pistons have more of a dome than LS pistons.

The LS-VTEC motor will produce more power than a GSR, it is just not as reliable unless it is built. If you don't build it, you will soon find out that it is still an LS Block when it blows. People who build the LS-VTEC w/just the stock block and head run into problems down the way. The cause for this is not being able to get over how quick your 93 hatch is and how hard it pulls. At which point it blows. When it is built it will longer satisfy your desire to abuse it. I have dyno results for an LS-VTEC N/A and forced if anyone wants to know what the results are.
