i sanded the whole wheel with 800 grit sand paper, then 1,000. then i repolished them. turns out the only part that really got raw was the blemish spots. so when i polished the wheel, now the wheel has really bright spots, and normal aluminum spots. the bright spots take the place of the blemishes. i think im gonna have to sand the whole thing with lower grit sandpaper, and then repolish the whole wheel.
anyone know what grit sand paper i should use to make the whole wheel raw? thanks

The key to a long lasting, quality finish is proper surface preparation - which is why IMO sandblasting is the best way to completely strip the surface down to bare metal.
I say sandblast and machine polish the alloys, then clearcoat them (or powdercoat if you're interested in a different color).
