Default new cat = check engine light on?

hmm..just installed a high flow catalytic converter and catback exhaust. problem now is that my check engine light is coming on. everything is in place, no exhaust leaks, etc. is it maybe because there is not as much pressure in the exhaust? maybe the O2 sensors think theres an exhaust leak somewhere since theres less backpressure? help me out ^^

hmmmmmmm!

It could possibly be a code 67 "Catalyst System". You could be right as well something could be up with the O2 sensor.

You could try to reset the CEL but I have a feeling that wont work.

What kind of high flow cat did you purchase?
Do you know how to jump the ECU to retrieve the check engine light code?

If it's a code 67 good luck trying to get rid of it. :chuckles:
Code 67 is a bitch and as long as you have that high flow cat on, that code is going to stay.

You could very well have trouble passing emissions. Welcome to the world of OBD2 and the problems that come with modifying the emissions system.

hmm im thinking of resorting to just unplugging the CEL if its gonna stay like that. i dunno how to jump the ecu, not much of a computer guy. but also another thing i noticed when installing the cat is that i had to make an extension for the rear O2 sensor. both O2 sensor mounts on the new cat are at the front of the cat. not one in the front and one at the rear like the stock cat. but the original rear O2 sensor is mounted at the bottom of the cat, pointed straight at the road! like 2" ground clearance... would it be bad to just take off the damn rear O2 sensor? after all the cat DID come with one O2 mount plug. thnxx

-oh yeah and i dont have to worry about emissions..so that wont be a prob for me

You could try if you want but I doubt that will fix the problem. God knows what kind of cat you purchased, a Carsound converter would probably worked out better. I wouldn't personally run the car without the secondary O2 sensor. One option that would be available for you to rid the check engine light would be to run a O2 simulator.

Something like this. Click here

It would be wise to first diagnose the problem though. The o2 sensor could be the problem here instead of the cat. Code 63 & 65 are Secondary O-2 Sensor problems.

You could have someone with a OBD2 scantool read the check engine light. Autozone does it for free where I'm from. Or you could jump the Ecu yourself with a paper clip. Here's an example for the 94-00 Integra.

Locate the green factory diagnostic plug next to the ECU. Find this plug in the passenger side foot well underneath the far right hand side of the glove box. It's the two-pin connector that contains a brown and black wire.

Jump the "blue" two pin connector by inserting the end of a paper clip into each hole. Then turn your key to the on position. Don't turn the car on or you could possibly blow a fuse. Here's the hard part, you will then have to read the number of flashes from the dash (check engine light).
There will be a set of long flashes and rapid flashes.
Long extended flashes =10
Rapid flashes = 1

Example: six long flashes would be 60, seven rapid flashed would be 7. This indicates code 67.

This was for your information, hopefully you found it useful.

OBX, ughhhhhhhhh! There's a reason you got it for free, think about it.

Honestly, save up for a better cat bro. Like I previously stated a "Carsound" cat would have been a better choice for your teg. I highly doubt you would have got a check engine light with a better cat selection. You get what you pay for.

There's some better quality high flow converters on this website.

Auto Zone will check your on board computer codes and tell you the problem for free. It takes five minutes.
