WTF's that noise?...
This developed recently. Coming from front right wheel, while the car's rolling there's a distinct metal "scratching noise"... It stops whenever I touch the brakes and stopped of course... what could it be? I thought it was a worn CV joint but it doesnt sound like it from what I read... plz help. Thanks.

It's all brakes I bet. Either your pads need replaced, or your dust cover is rubbing up against the disk. When did you last replace your pads, and have u taken your wheel off recently, you might have bumped the dust cover?

ya my crx just started doing that noise from the right wheel as well , it was sittin awhile and then the faster i go the louder it gets ,like a grinding noise? not the pads,or the calipers ? im stumped ? :confused:

the thing to do would be to pull your caliper and measure the depth of your pad with a depth guage...there isn't much there other then your pads and rotors that could be makeign that noise!

Hey guys thanks for the replies. Yea sounds like something's scratching the rotor but its pretty smooth every time I look at it. I'll see if the dust cover's the culprit.

Look at the inboard brake pad. When it gets thin, sometimes the pad sits at a slightly different position when you're not stepping on the brakes. The pad-wear indicator brushes against the rotor. When you put on the brakes, the pad straightens out & gets quiet. If you wait a month or so, it'll start doing the loud screetching, like it's supposed to do when the pad's worn down.

i had the same problem and it was my drivers' side front caliper sticking. the pad was constantly rubbing into the rotor. replaced the caliper (and pads & rotors) and it was no more.

make sure its not a piece of gravel/asphalt/rock etc. stuck in between your pad in the rotor. if its bad enough, the piece will dig into the pad, but that is in extreme cases. this happens to me a lot more than my other friends for some reason.

jack it up, take off your wheel and spin the rotor. You should be able to hear it. Either the pads aren't seated properly or somethings rubbing against your rotor. If, as you're spinning the rotor, it only rubs during part of the rotation (i.e. for 1/4 of each rotation) its also possible your rotors are warped.
