In Japan, there was an Auto SiR, but not in the US.

Not in the US, no GSRs were auto here, ever.

I recall that the JDM Auto SIR tranny is the same tranny code as the USDM LS one

Don't know about that, but for certain the gear ratios are very different. My sister has an SiR auto tranny in her '94 LS and they're pretty aggressive. 4k rpm in the top gear for her tranny is the same mph as my manual tranny in 5th (80 mph).
