i have a 95 gs-r with 84K. I don't know if I should rebuild the motor and turbo or supercharge it or buy another gsr motor with 25K on it and get that rebuilt . So my questions are:
1. rebuild my motor or new motor?
2. turbo or supercharger?
3. what kind of turbo/supercharger?

any help would ve hot.

do a compression and leak down test..

all depends on your goal really.. SC will give you instant boost without the turbo lag.. good for autox etc.. jackson racing is a good super charger.. turbo will be faster of course..

 

Why rebuild? Theres no point if your motor is in good shape.

First off, no rebuild.

Second, it depends on what method you prefer, really. A turbo kit will net you more power almost everywhere given similar setups.

 

thats the thing... my car was beat by the previous owner and there is constant tapping of the valves. ive even had them adjusted twice. secondly, everyone i know who has turbocharged a vtec engine has blown it with the stock internals, so i figured get it rebuilt first and save the trouble and the money.

 

Thats not the way to do it, IMO.

Boost first, learn the tendencies of a turbo/sc kit...make as much power as you can reliable on the stock motor and enjoy it. If it goes, it goes. Then rebuild it and shoot for big power. If it lasts, enjoy hassle-free boost for as long as you can. Thats my philosophy. Why fix it if it aint broke?

Have you had them adjusted correctly? Are you doing the valve job yourself? Is the idle steady?

 

dont rebuild if you dont have too! think of the money youll save and you can use for more performance mods:dunno:IMO

but don't rebuilt until you have to. that's my plan!

and turbo/sc is all based on your preferences: high power at higher RPMs, or more power in the low end?
