sudden increase in power in low rpms

this is kind of a weird question, but ill try to explain it the best i can.
somtimes when i shift from 1st to 2nd in really low rpms (in my gsr) and in 2nd gear the rpms drop to about 1k rpm....i accelerate and it lags of course because its in so low of an rpm, but as soon as the rpms reach about 2k i feel a slight inscrease in power, even with my foot on the pedal in the same position, i feel a boost in acceleration. this doesnt bother me but i was just asking out of curiosity. are these different cams kicking in or what? or is this abnormal? i only feel this in 2nd gear and it usually boosts for a second at about 2k rpm then it stops for about 2 or 3 hundred rpm and i feel it boost again, then the acceleration is smooth from there on up. until 6k rpm when the secondaries open up then everything gets really loud. haha. i seem to feel more power when the secondaries open up then when vtec kicks in. i can barely feel anything at about 4,400 rpm or whatever it is that vtec kicks in.

It's cause your engine's not supposed to pull a car at that low of an RPM.... if possible, never let your RPMs drop below 2K while actually driving your car... at idle, you can let it sit at ±750 RPM, but your engine will NOT like you if you drive any less than 1.5K RPMs, and it will do fine if you keep it above 2K....

Anyways, you're making like 20 hp and who knows how little ft/lbs of torque at those RPMs.

how come its bad to have the rpms that low? what happens to the engine if you do keep it that low?

You run the risk of lugging the engine, which could lead to fairly decent bearing damage

wow, i never knew that. thanks epoch.

wait, when you mean lugging, do you mean like the shaking when the engine is struggling?

Epoch 12-03-2003 11:08 PM

AH exactly!!!

integsracer 12-03-2003 11:22 PM

ohh..which bearings can you ruin?

yes, try and keep that at a minimum.
