Default grinding shifting from 1-2

when i accelerate hard an shft my car near red line it grinds and won't let me into second gear. i noticed if i tak a long pause between shifts that it won't grind. it's not a hue deal because i usually don't drive like that bu whn i do it bothers me. will a short shifter fix this problem? it is a new accord sedan with about 7500 miles. any suggestions would be great.

Short shifter might make things worse; sounds like the classic symptoms of a bad synchromesh. I would take this in to the dealer ASAP and have them fix it under warranty.

get it fixed if you have a warranty or just get a used tranny that doesn't grind... if you shift too fast and make it grind you don't know how to drive. end of that

Yup, sounds like a syncro. It kinda sucks if its not under warranty, because my friends civic had the same problem going from 2 to 3, and they wont replace just the one, but ALL syncros, which is BS
