Hey folks,
Im so glad to find this site because you guys really seem to know what you are typing about and I need some help.

Ive got a 98 civic which I commute weekly on and lately when braking its felt a little warped. Thats the best I can say.

Now here is where I turn for help.....Ive never done brakes. Ive done fuel filters, alternators, head gaskets on my old jeep etc so Im not car retarded, but I also dont want to get into something over my head.

Im thinking the brake is either worn out, wearing out, or my imagination wonders if debris could get in there and literally warp them. Either way they need to go I think.

Are they easy to replace? Is it sorta pull off the wheels and such or do I need special tools?

Im trying to decide whether to do it myself which is preferred financially of course, or bring it in and let my mechanic do it....

any help thoughts or suggestions?

Brakes are easy. Pull off the wheels. remove one bolt. Swing the caliper out and change the pads. Pretty straight forward. Once you look at it, it's pretty simple.

also check your rotors too. if they feel "warped" then perhaps your rotors are warped.

have someone check out the rotors while your doing the brakes. they might need to be replaced. if you're lucky they only need to be shaved.

So can I just feel the rotor or take them off and bring them to the mechanic?

Or answer my own question, change the pads and see if it still brakes warped eh??

when you change the pads you should get the rotors resurfaced if it isnt warped. if that warped feeling you get is vibration when you brake, most likely its warped.

the rotor should be flat. have a mechanic come look at it while you change the brakes (they can help to, they have caliper pushers). that way you can get a good idea how to change it and diagnose the problem better.
