Default pinging issues

hi.

i have a 1991 honda civic dx sedan with the 1.5L d15b2 engine and automatic transmission and a/c.

this engine has no EGR.

even at stock timing (18) there is a bit of ping that can be heard in the upper RPM ranges and it's kind of annoying. i was wondering if there's anything that can be done about it. it's while running at 87 octane. 89 doesn't help that much and premium helps a little bit more but **** that because the car's designed to run on regular and not premium.

the car gets about 8L/100 km or 29 mpg. rotor, cap, wires, plugs, fuel filter, coolant, thermostat, radiator have all been replaced to no avail. there seems to be no driveability issues otherwise. spark plugs never look out of the ordinary.

thx.

could be carbon build-up in the combustion chamber. SeaFoam works really well to clear that up, you can also use automatic tranny fluid, but that's EXTREMELY messy, stinky, and highly not recommended. heh.
