i did a search on this, and most ppl are saying that it's possible to swap the current tranny w/ 5 speed or 6 speeds from other cars. But, wouldn't there be a problem since the j30 only has 4 speeds? oR, would the swap just change the whole setup? ..just curious..

also, i heard from someone else that a swap from an Acura Legend is possible. I bet this would be a lot easier to find and a lot cheaper too. :naughty:

 

If you have the V6, you can use the CL Type-S 6 speed or the Accord Coupe V6 6 speed. The Legend swap is not a bolt on and requires some work if it can, in fact, be done.

Obviously the number of gears wouldn't matter, as you're replacing the entire transmission with a new one.

I doubt you can do it yourself unless you have a lift and a lot of experience. it should cost you a pretty penny, but it's a bolt on from the Accord or CL.

 

i have access to a lift and the guy there has a hell of a lot of experience so he can help me out.

so, there's nothing that needs to be altered? like the ECU? and what about the clutch pedal itself? would it be included w/ the tranny?

Yeah, the clutch would be included with the transmission. As I said, your best bet is to find a junkyard donor CL Type-S 6 speed or Accord V6 6-Speed, although both are pretty rare. I don't know how much a new transmission from Honda would cost...I'm guessing a lot. The ECU would need to be reset perhaps (unplug the battery for few minutes), but I doubt even that has to occur. You're not altering the engine.

The CL Type-S transmission has a Limited Slip Differential, so you should lean towards that.

Legend trans sit like a rwd. It would take a lot of fabricating.

I have an 00 accord SC with an 03 cls 6spd in it. The ecu is not a simple thing to deal with.

 

yeah, what did you do for you ECU? Just curious...
