Default engine rebuilding tips

My teg's got a leaky head gasket so i'll have to replace it sometime. But when i do that, while they're in there, anything else I should replace that might be worn out and not as smooth anymore? ie pistons, rods, other seals, etc... thanks for reading, or maybe some suggestion on better parts? its a 94 LS

ummm...to replace the pistons and rods you have to remove the entire engine, not just the head.

but you could have the valve seals replaced.

Also check out the Hayes Manual or some other since typically during a particular repair section, they list items that should be done at the same time or problem areas to inspect.
