A cold front hit my area in the past few days. While driving home, my car started leaking oil profusely - the oil light came on, 10s later my engine churned, made some unpleasant noises, and pretty much blew up. It's a 2001 Prelude SH 120k miles.

Before this incident, I planned to trade it in for a new car. Many parts on it are still good - suspension, tranny, belts, new a/c compressor, as well as interior, exterior panels etc... basically everything but the motor is in good or great condition. What should I do now - is it even worth trying to trade it in? Any help/advice is appreciated.

 

That's terrible man, sorry about your misfortune.

You could always try to sell it as a shell on Craigslist or someplace similar.

Have you checked to see how much it would cost to fix? I'm sure it's going to be rather expensive.

 

used motor attarco. drop it in and ur back on the road again... maybe 4 to 6 hrs to do it.

 

Yeah I'm going to break it open this weekend and see what's going on.. but I'm not too optimistic at this point :P

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on this site. I'm looking at maybe a used 370z - liking the stats and seems like good bang for the buck. Anyone need a v-afc or an sh tranny for the h22a4?

 

Were any other parts damaged? The resale value in Hondas is actually incredible.....I was offered $4000 for my trade in 1998 CRV a day before someone ran a red light, hit me from behind, pushed me into the intersection and smashed in the back of my car. The damage was more than cosmetic, and when I went to the dealership anyway they gave me the full trade in price for it. You might not have such good luck (my engine was fine), but you'll still get some good money for the car. My advice is to explore your options....see what dealerships offer you for it and what sort of offers you're getting on craigslist from parts specialists. Good Luck!
