Are you leasing, financing, or buying this car outright? That will help you determine what kind of coverage you need.

I wouldn't exactly call my self smart but heres my 02. In regards to what you need to do to make it legit you have to get it tagged, titled, and insurace. If you are going through a dealer they tag and title if for you. If im not mistaken temp tags ( at least in MD) are good for 21 days. You need some form of tag even if its not going to be driven. It can't even sit on the street or non-driveway parking spot without tags (SO GAY). I am with All State and they are pretty good so far. With most insurance companies you can go with comprehensive insurance which covers everything from falling off a cliff in most cases to theft. I think Liability and collision insurance are similar. Correct me if im wrong guys but i think that pretty much covers you if you hit someone. Anyways, those two are usually a lot cheaper then comprehensive. I pay 200 a month, im 19 and i have my own car but its under my parents name. If you can go this route definitely do so. A friend of mine with a similar car with his own insurance policy pays more than 3 times what i do. You can get a quote for the most part online at any of the company's websites. It's probably easier to do it over the phone tho because the stupid online process sometimes tells you that you need to talk to an agent anyway or makes you wait for an email telling you that you need to see an agent. Anyways, good luck.

Ben

im buying this car from private party.

when u say tags, u mean license plate and sticker tags rite, not registration in particular.

umm, im 19 and im gonna insure the car myself so its gonna be expensive. i only want the minimum insurance jsut enough to cover the other person rather than me. im picking up the car for 8k$ ill let u know what car it is when i get it b/c i hate hyping it when i dont have it....yet. so is comprehensive insurance like premium coverage, b/c im into liabilty only really. i wonder how soon i can finish all these so i can roll the streets ASAP.

It depends a lot from state to state as far as what its required by the insurance company and whats optional... in MA you NEED liability (covers damage YOU do to OTHERS), the rest is optional. I got comprehensive as well which covers theft and fire I believe. The cheapest way is to register the car under a older more experienced driver and have them have you as a secondary driver. But I dont think that is an option for you... anyways, heres what to do to get your car on the road legally.

#1 buy it etc... and get the OLD title
#2 bring old title to insurance company and purchase insurance
#3 bring proof of insurance purchase + old title to RMV
#4 purchase new registration and get new plates (or use the old ones if you're transferring) and attach to car and you're good to go.

At least thats what I did... good luck and I know you're dying to get your car on the road

I'm not hella smart but i don't think a '02 GSR exists....Since they replaced the Integra line with RSXs. Where in Cali are you from?
