Hydrolock is when the water that comes into the piston cannot be compressed like air does.

As the piston tries to work its way to the top of the cylinder, it cannot go any further, and bam, bye-bye rod.

The answer to your question.....right away.

I knew a friend who did this with a stock Ford ZX2, about a month old. Don't ask me how, she must have been completely underwater....but her block was totally destroyed. Hard lesson to learn. OK, I'll say it......freakin' stuuuuuupppppid.

Yeah the stock intake location is actually in the engine bay right next to your ABS relay. (I just took mine out that's why I know).

But like matdvd said you would know right away if there was a problem.

on the GSR there is a pipe that goes DOWN under the bumper, but then goes up into the right side fender. its kinda odd. Wonder if throttle resposne would increase if you dumped the pipe.

I doubt it, and even if it did you probably would not notice it. The stock intake box is freaking huge and pretty heavy...when you actually have the whole thing sitting on a table you can really see how restrictive it is.

If you have the AEM CAI, you can get the Bypass valve. Only problem is it tends to make you lose HP. I heard somewhere that the Comptech Ice box is pretty good about hydrolocking. Don't know for fact but its worth investigating.

Bypass valve is for the foolish. Just use common sense and understand your car isn't amphibious. Because it takes a very high amount of water indigestion in order to hydrolock.
