Default Wow, Check out these SWEET blockguards

I was searching around for info on the interaction of blockguards an water-jackets, and exactly how they work. And I came across these sweet combo cylinder sleeves/blockguards!

What do you guys think?

I'm just starting out learning, so if I missed something stupid, don't flame me too hard.

Word, a lot of companies make sleeves. AEBS, RS Machine, Benson's, etc.

Sleeve with a built in block-guard? well, cool, umm... it's my first day here... and um... the thread was here when I got here... :chuckles:

specifically the integrated block-guard was what I thought was neat.

I got to thinking though... and let's assume that (any) sleeves are made out of a denser material (seems likely) than the rest of the motor... and they do not have the benefit of homogenous contact, like a solid motor... I wonder how this affects heat transfer and dissapation...

it's called a supported sleeve system.

all Hondas are like this. B motors use iron sleeves with an aluminum surround, while H series motors use FRM with an aluminum surround.

this is due to metal to metal heat transfer isnt THAT important when there's a water jacket surrounding the cylinders for cooling purposes. the only way this would be a problem would be if iron distorted more than aluminum under heat stress... if so, the iron sleeves would expand and cause the aluminum block to possibly fracture.

but since iron doesnt distort more than aluminum, this is not a problem.

I put some of the Dartons in a customers block recently but with the new Dart blocks only running about $1900 or less it makes more sense to go that route for an all around stronger piece rather than spend $$5-600 for sleeves and $600-1000 for installation.
