Default My engine is echoing at 2000+ RPMs

WTF

something like:

VVVVVVVRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOMmmmmmmmvvvvvv

Like the "mmmmmmvvvvvv" is not as loud audible as the engine revving up. But when I listen closely, I notice it.

It's like a belt is too tight or something. I I hope my timing belt tensioners aren't bad.

Maybe more like:
vvvvvvvvvvvVVVVVVRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm (engine has revved back down)mmmmmmmmmvvvvvvvvvvvvvv (after engine has revved back down)

well usually when its a tensioner it will be on deceleration only and not acceleration.... but if the tensioner does go bad it will tighten the belt too much and you may hear that kind of sound on deceleration. Is this at partial throttle, full throttle or what? and does it do it more when its cold? If it only does it on deceleration than it is most likely the tensioner. What motor do you have?

I have the f22b1. I just did the timing/balancer belts about 2 weeks ago now. Don't tell me I have to go BACK in there.

we didn't put the belt back on wrong. maybe ignition timing still off a tad?

i don't wanna go back in there (for the 3rd time).

so i guess the sound is on decceleration. and no, i'm not even at full throttle. I can notice it right when i'm at 2000 RPMs. I hear it as soon as I put my foot on the clutch (take the car outta gear).

and i'm also not experiencing the full torque of that vehicle. i'm sure it's probably connected.

well the problem is, either way if your timing is off a tad or the tensioner is bad youll have to go in there. Also, just curious , do your cams have holes on them? cause on my 93 integra when I did the belt the cams had holes in them to stick something in there so when you do the belt the timing doesnt move at all. I havent opened mine up on my h22 yet but im hoping it has the holes, my luck it wont lol. Also, does yours have a manual or an auto tensioner? if it is auto when they go bad the bearing goes all the way out so it tightens the belt more and that is what you hear, like a GRRRRRRR sound on deceleration..... if it is a manual tensioner then is it possible you tightened the belt too much? But the fact that you say it lost torque could mean the timing is off a tad because I do not believe you would feel a difference if power if the tensioner was too tight... either way, it sucks if you have to go back in there, but if you have to make sure to check/knock both things out at once, it sounds like its definitely related to one of those two.

that's right. i forgot. it is possible to adjust the tensioner without removing the timing belt cover. That I need to do.

So do you just turn it a hair or what. I need to read on how to adjust it I suppose.

finally consulted my manual. it seems that tensioner bolt/nut should only be torqued 33 ft-lbs. I'm pretty sure I pulled on it pretty good with the 3/8" drive ratchet. I probably torqued it 2 - 3 times more than it should have been torqued. i'll loosen that down to 33 ft-lbs or so and see if that loosens things up in there a bit.
