92 2.3 Prelude Si NON v-tec
Alright heres the Question. I have a 92 Prelude Si with a 2.3 DOHC. I needed to take the Head off so I can take it into the shop ( I live in Bellingham which is in northwest washington, so if you know of any shops that I can go to that do good fair priced work tell me) The guy estimated 350.00 if I bring the head in to him, and around 600.00 if I take the car into him. I took everything off of the head and started to take off the head bolts and one of them wont budge, so I got out my breaker bar and it did not move and striped the head of the # 6 bolt which is a 14mm. I have tryed everything to get it off and its not comeing off. I am about to give up and put it all back together and take it in. Is there anything I am not trying that I can do to get the bolt off? Also (again) if you know of a cheaper shop I can go to up here please tell me. Thanx in advance.
From what you're saying, I'm guesing you either rounded off the hex portion of the bolt-head, or the bolt-head snapped off entirely, leaving the shaft threaded into the block. If you rounded off the bolt-head, you can try using a Metrinch-type socket that's designed to grip rounded bolts, or something like a Gator-grip or other universal socket if you can fit one in there. Otherwise, your other option would be to drill a pilot hole and use an extractor to back the bolt out. If you snapped the bolt-head completely off, then you should be able to lift the head off with the bolt-shaft still threaded into the block. Then you could grind two parallel flat spots onto the shaft and use pliers, a crescent wrench, Vise Grips, etc, to back it out. If neither of those seems like a feasible option, then you may have to bite the bullet and have a machine shop drill it out.
People aren't online 24/7, so you can't always expect to get a quick response, and that attitude doesn't exactly make anyone want to go out of their way to help you.

Well... It rounded out 2 of my Craftsman sockets (replaced today at SEARS) and rounded the head of the bolt. I put it all back together and said screw it. I was useing that atitude because I knew it would get replys. Thanks for the info!
